Upstream of the deployment of the Local Flood Warning System and in partnership with the PNR des Grands Causses, and the Lot General Council, the Syndicat Mixte du Pays de la Vallée de la Dordogne is carrying out studies and work on the Alzou basin.
In 2007, the integrated water management plan allowed the setting up of the PAPI of the Dordogne Lotoise which will lead to the decision to set up a Local Flood Warning System.
The Alzou in its lower reaches is a temporary stream with flash floods and on which no Local Flood Warning System is in place. As it flows through the commune of Rocamadour, a major tourist site, there are a number of issues at stake in the Alzou floodplain: light facilities and a car park with several hundred parking spaces. In the past, flood events have created emergency evacuation situations from this car park.
Within this framework, the implementation of a Local Flood Warning System on the alzou was decided in 2011.
The implementation of the Local Flood Warning System meets several objectives:
the Local Flood Warning System must be flexible and evolutionary in order to allow for gradual adaptation to new knowledge acquired and to respond to needs that may be expressed in the future, following the development of the municipalities and thus allow for the extension of the Local Flood Warning System.
