Monitoring of water in the natural environment
The Pannecière dam is located in the upper Yonne valley, in the department of Nièvre (58), a few kilometres from the town of Château-Chinon. It is part of the Morvan Regional Natural Park.
The EPTB Seine Grands Lacs is the manager of the work.
In winter and spring, the water is stored in the reservoir lake in order to build up a reserve for low water levels, according to a pre-established filling curve. During flood periods, additional withdrawals are made to limit the risk of flooding downstream.
In summer and autumn, the water previously stored is returned to the Yonne to avoid too low a flow in the river and to improve the quality of the aquatic environment.
The EPTB Seine Grands Lacs wished to carry out the monitoring of the dam leakage flow in order to quantify the lost volumes.
A piezometric sensor PARATRONIC type SNA measures the height of water at the level of an overflow blade, and the flow rates in the drip tray are then determined by threshold law.
The LNS PARATRONIC station stores this information, and provides height/flow conversion on site. The LNS station displays height, flow and temperature information directly on site.
The data are also stored and made available on a USB stick connected to the LNSto be retrieved manually by the user. The station is also equipped with a GSM/GPRS/3G modem, which will allow the data to be sent to a supervision system installed later.
LNS acquisition stations have been specially developed to meet this type of problem: monitoring of sensitive natural environments by sensors, data banking and transmission, triggering of alerts, etc.
