The risk of forest fires is very high in the Hérault department, particularly during the heat wave.
Eric Flores, general controller and director of the SDIS 34: "We consider these fire risks by preparing ourselves. We are setting up our forest fire fighting system. We are going to have all of our land resources financed by the departmental council [...]. Overall, this system has been working well for two or three years. And the objective is to make it permanent.
The Hérault department has a complete system with watchtowers, cameras placed on the heights (including 13 cameras for the removal of doubt). "According to the department's services, 70% of the Hérault's territory is subject to fire surveillance, which represents an area of 3,780 km².
The ADELIE (Alert Detection Localisation) system is a forest fire monitoring system that detects the presence of smoke in the natural environment thanks to a unique image capture and processing principle.
