9th World Water Forum

INTRODUCTION :

9th World Water Forum

PARATRONIC will participate in the 9th World Water Forum which will take place in Dakar from 21 to 26 March 2022. Our stand will be hosted in the "choose France" area organised by Business France. On the forum you will be able to meet Patrice RILLY, CEO, Mickaël VICENTE, International Director and Ali BASMA, West Africa Market Manager. They will have the pleasure of presenting all our products from our water cycle and hydrology departments.

1. HISTORY OF THE WORLD WATER FORUM: (D-30)

Since 1997, the fair has been held every three years in a different country: Brazil, Korea, France, Turkey, Mexico, Japan, the Netherlands and Morocco. This year, Senegal is the first country in sub-Saharan Africa to host such an event.

The forum was created by the World Water Council, which organises the event in collaboration with the host country. Participants come from all fields, from politics, public and private society and universities from all over the world.

The objective of the World Water Forum is to provide an opportunity for the international water community to engage with key decision makers and participate in the various international water challenges.

2. STAKEHOLDERS :

Among the participants, we find actors from various fields: politicians, public sector companies (local authorities, consultancy firms, etc.) and private companies. National agencies serving internationalisation such as Business France are also present to host the partner companies (Choose France area) and to facilitate the setting up of the selected companies.

Focus on institutional partners:

-Business France: The international development agency will be present via its own dedicated "Choose France" space. This space is dedicated to companies with products or solutions related to the water cycle (sanitation, water management or treatment). It will thus offer visibility to partner companies wishing to exhibit at the World Water Exhibition. Physical visibility will therefore be possible via their individual stand, but the company will also be visible online via its listing in the e-catalogue. Business France's support also gives access to events during the show, such as side-events and networking venues, which offer players the opportunity to collaborate and connect with each other.

-PFE: The French Water Partnership is a platform bringing together all the French public and private water stakeholders. Within the exhibition, it will coordinate the institutional and official delegation of these actors.

The FWP also advocates internationally to place water at the centre of sustainable development policies: the objective is to facilitate the exchange of know-how between France and other countries. In this sense, the FWP owns and coordinates an institutional space called "France" which highlights French know-how and its different actors. To complete this visibility action, they will be present at the "Choose France" stand with the objective of exhibiting a delegation of French companies. Finally, it will also act as a spokesperson for these players by publicly transmitting their various messages

3. HOST COUNTRY :

The changing water sector:

For the 9th edition of the World Water Forum, Senegal has been chosen as the host country. It is the first country in sub-Saharan Africa to host this kind of event. Senegal is experiencing unprecedented development in the water and sanitation sector. The end of the health crisis is a factor in this acceleration of investments. The recovery plan offers many opportunities and more specifically concrete financing to facilitate the supply of drinking water and sanitation (WATSAN) in both urban (Dakar) and rural (Tambacounda) areas.

A leading programme in access to water and sanitation :

This desire for development can easily be illustrated by the drinking water and sanitation programme (PEPAM). This programme was launched in 2005 by the Senegalese government with funding of one billion dollars. It follows on from numerous projects such as the sectoral water and sanitation project (PSEA). The latter ran from 2014 to 2018 at an estimated cost of nearly $40 million. It had two components; rural and urban. In the rural regions of Tambacounda and Louga, better access to water and sanitation was developed. As for Dakar and Ziguinchor, it is in a dimension of rehabilitation and extension of the already existing networks that the AMSP has developed access to water.

No less than 750,000 people (75% from the regions of Tambacounda and Louga) have benefited from improved access to drinking water and sanitation (WATSAN) and a reduction in diseases linked to unsafe water. The project has also created more than 5,000 temporary jobs and 500 permanent jobs. Young people and women have been given pride of place, accounting for more than half of the hires in a sector where men are still over-represented.

Paratronic in Senegal!

Since June 2021, Paratronic has put in place a West African market manager, located in Senegal in the person of Ali BASMA. This deployment as close as possible to the market allows us to maintain close relations with our local partners via technical follow-up and training. This proximity is at the origin of a recent success in collaboration with SEN'EAU within the framework of the deployment of drinking water exploitation and distribution installations. Since January 2020, SEN'EAU is the reference actor on the market of drinking water supply and sanitation (WATSAN) in Senegal. Paratronic is therefore happy to contribute, at its own level, to the development of the water cycle sector through this new relationship with SEN'EAU.

4. ORGANISATION OF THE FORUM :

The on-site organisation is divided into five distinct areas:

A first area called Expo / Fair, which will be the forum's "exhibition" area. It will be possible to find the different actors responding to the international water challenges.

A second area dedicated to the Response Pathway will aim to respond to water and sanitation issues, where the "Dakar 2021 Initiatives" labelled projects will be exhibited. These are projects with the ambition to produce real and lasting impacts on local populations.

There will also be the " African Village " area, which aims to raise awareness about the challenges of access to water over time. This space will also be dedicated to sharing experiences, good practices to be adopted as well as to discussing issues related to water security. The space will be arranged in different geographical zones, each inspired by local issues (cultural and territorial).

The " Sanitation Village " will be reserved mainly for technological, scientific and cultural responses to the many sanitation and hygiene challenges worldwide. Sanitation issues concerning the recovery of waste will also be addressed in this part of the exhibition.

The fifth and final venue is dedicated to the host country. Indeed, the Espace Sénégal will be entirely dedicated to the promotion of the country. Innovations, know-how and the many projects carried out at local level on the subject of the water cycle will be highlighted during various presentations.
