FAQ: The SNP Level Sensor

SNP probe

SNP level probe PARATRONIC

What is an SNP probe, and what applications is it designed for?

The SNP sensor is a high-precision submersible piezometric level sensor (pressure measurement). It was specifically developed for measuring low water levels or low pressures (up to a maximum of 1 bar).

Thanks to its durability, it is ideal for:

  • Natural environments: Monitoring of waterways and canals; detailed measurement of low-flow periods or variations in groundwater levels.

High-flow effluents: Pumping stations, storm water overflows, or wastewater systems where fluid conditions are challenging.

What is its measurement range (full scale)?

The SNP sensor is extremely flexible. Its measurement range (or full scale) extends from 0 to 0.5 meters and from 0 to 10 meters of water column. This modular design ensures excellent resolution and maximum accuracy, even for level variations of just a few dozen centimeters.

How do I configure the sensor?

This is one of the SNP’s key strengths: it is fully customizable.

You have two options:

Factory settings.

When placing your order, simply specify the desired full scale (in meters or bars, for example, 0–1 bar), and we will deliver a product that is ready to use.

User configuration.

You can adjust the sensor’s scale or behavior yourself, either in the field or in the workshop. To do so, simply use our ADP USB box, the CAB USB-B cable, and our free IHM Capteurs software (available for download without a license on our website). This allows you to configure a standard 4–20 mA output signal or an inverted 20–4 mA signal.

What makes its power cable unique?

The SNP sensor uses our proprietary CABSOND cable. Like traditional piezometric sensors, the signal is transmitted via a two-wire connection without a venting capillary tube. Additionally, for applications in highly corrosive environments or those subject to high mechanical stress, a triple-jacketed CABFOR reinforced cable with Kevlar cord can be provided upon request.

What materials are used to ensure its durability?

To ensure long-term resistance to raw water and heavily contaminated effluents, the body of the SNP probe is made entirely of passivated 316L stainless steel. This choice of material provides excellent durability, ensuring a long service life for the equipment, even when submerged 24 hours a day in harsh conditions.

What are its electrical specifications?

The SNP sensor integrates very easily into all existing systems (controllers, data loggers, data acquisition stations) thanks to proven industry standards:

  • Power supply: Wide voltage range from 8 to 35 Vdc.
  • Output signal: 4–20 mA 2-wire current loop (or 20–4 mA, depending on configuration).

What is the warranty for the SNP level sensor?

The SNP level sensor comes with a 1-year warranty.

PARATRONIC's after-sales service is carried out in France and within a very short time. Our efficient service is supported by our expertise and our dedicated contacts.

Where is the SNP level sensor manufactured?

Like all PARATRONIC sensors, lightning protection devices, and data acquisition stations, the SNP probe is entirely designed, manufactured, and tested at our factory in Reyrieux, in the Ain department (France).

By choosing SNP, you benefit from the expertise of a French manufacturer, rigorous 100% quality control at the factory, and highly responsive local technical support in the field and on-site (response within 24 hours).

Do you have a level measurement project or a technical question?
