Ultrasonic liquid level sensors

Applications of ultrasonic liquid level sensors:

The ultrasonic level sensors PARATRONIC are intended for the measurement of liquid level, without immersion and without contact with liquids.
The wide range of applications of the ultrasonic liquid level sensors allows them to be used for liquid level measurement in: sewage treatment plants, collectors, tanks, watercourses, storm overflows, discharge channels, and for level measurement of all other liquids ...

The utrasons level sensors are therefore suitable for any non-contact distance or level measurement of a liquid which may be a charged or aggressive liquid .

Operating principle of ultrasonic liquid level sensors:

The ultrasonic liquid level sensors of the PARATRONIC US range offer the following advantages:

Full scale accuracy of the ultrasonic level sensor.

There is no time drift in liquid level measurement.

Low temperature influence on the liquid level measurement, thanks to a temperature sensor integrated in the ultrasonic sensor and automatic compensation.

Straightforward indication of level measurement errors in liquids by switching the output signal to 22mA.

Ultrasonic liquid level sensors do not need to be pressurized to atmospheric pressure.

Requires little maintenance.

No freezing damage to ultrasonic liquid level probes .

The operating principle of ultrasonic liquid level probes is based on the evaluation of the transit time of an ultrasonic wave pulse between the lower surface of the ultrasonic probe and the surface of the liquid to be measured. This ultrasonic wave pulse acts on the piezoelectric constants of a sensitive element internal to the ultrasonic liquid level sensor, which is evaluated by a converter internal to the ultrasonic liquid level sensor to generate a 4-20mA analog signal. This principle allows the ultrasonic liquid level sensor to be parameterized and re-parameterized, using a simple console, with a measuring range of up to 6m for US6 and 10m for US10.

Technical data for ultrasonic liquid level sensors US6 and US10 :

- Measuring range of Ultrasonic liquid level sensors US6 and US10 :

The measuring range or full scale (liquid level for which the ultrasonic level sensor gives 20mA) can be set on site between 0 and 6m for ultrasonic sensors US6 and between 0 and 10m for ultrasonic sensors US10 .

- Measuring accuracy of Ultrasonic liquid level sensors US6 and US10 :

The resolution of an ultrasonic liquid level sensor depends on the full scale :

– pour distance < 3 m : 1 mm
- for distance > 3 m: 0.03 % of the full scale of the ultrasonic sensor.

- Influence of typical temperature 0.01 %/°C.
- Drift as a function of relative humidity: 150 ppm/% hr.

- Mounting of Ultrasonic Liquid Level Sensors US6 and US10 :

The ultrasonic sensors US6 and US10 can be installed in 2 ways:
- suspended by the cable of the ultrasonic sensor (hanging system supplied),
- Fix on a bracket (bracket supplied with the ultrasonic sensor).

- Sealing of Ultrasonic Liquid Level Sensors US6 and US10 :

The ultrasonic sensors US6 and US10 are IP68.

- Ultrasonic liquid level measurement US6 and US10 :

The ultrasonic sensors US6 and the ultrasonic sensors US10 deliver a 4/20mA signal on two wires. Consequently, the transport distance of the signal delivered by the ultrasonic sensor has no influence on the accuracy of the measurement or on the wear of the parts, or even on the current consumed by the ultrasonic sensor.
The maximum distance between the ultrasonic sensor and the data acquisition unit does not depend on the sensor but on the supply voltage of the ultrasonic sensor. As an example, if the acquisition delivers a voltage of 12V the maximum distance is more than 2 km and if the station delivers a voltage of 24V the maximum distance is more than 15 km.

For distances, between the ultrasonic sensor and the acquisition, greater than 15 km, and always without degrading the accuracy of the measurement, it is sufficient to increase the supply voltage of the ultrasonic sensor.

- Sensor signal type Ultrasonic liquid level measurement US6 and US10 :

The ultrasonic sensors US6 and US10 deliver a 4/20mA signal on two wires.

- Operating voltage of Ultrasonic Liquid Level Sensors US6 and US10 :

The ultrasonic sensors US6 and the ultrasonic sensors US10 operate regardless of the loop supply voltage between 10Vdc and 40Vdc.

- Operating temperature of the sensors Ultrasonic liquid level measurement US6 and US10 :

The ultrasonic sensors US6 and the ultrasonic sensors US10 are suitable for measuring liquids with a temperature between -20°C and +60°C.

- Minimum sensor supply time Ultrasonic liquid level measurement US6 and US10 :

The ultrasonic sensors US6 and the ultrasonic sensors US10 deliver a 4/20mA signal on two wires permanently as long as the loop is powered. In the case of a pulse-powered loop, the minimum supply time of the ultrasonic sensor is 4 seconds.

- Adjustment and parameter setting mode of the sensors Ultrasonic liquid level measurement US6 and US10 :

The ultrasonic sensors US6 and the ultrasonic sensors US10 are extremely easy to set up.
Once the ultrasonic sensor is installed, connect the programming console of the USP ultrasonic sensor.
Two values are then requested:
- The full scale ( = maximum liquid level)
- The "current" level (= liquid level at the time of programming)

- Maintenance conditions for Ultrasonic Liquid Level Sensors US6 and US10 :

No special maintenance is required when using the ultrasonic sensors US6 and the ultrasonic sensors US10 .
